The Head Pain Association of Michigan (HPAM) was incorporated as a nonprofit
organization in 1992 and consists primarily of head pain sufferers and
their families. The goals of the association are to:
- Develop and increase the level of support services for headache
patients and their families;
- Educate health care professionals and the general public regarding
headache as a genuine illness and a significant public health concern;
- Distribute current research
efforts dedicated to headache disorders;
- Create an active public
information effort which brings issues relating to chronic headache
to the attention of legislators, employers, labor leaders, the media,
and other relevant persons within the state of Michigan; obtain recognition
for chronic pain equivalent to that given to other health disorders.
HPAM is affiliated with the American
Council for Headache Education (ACHE) which is a national, nonprofit, patient-physician
partnership that provides help and support to headache sufferers and promotes
increased public understanding of this complex, biologically based disorder.
